A Father’s Love

by Laura Jackson

I heard once that a girl’s relationship with her earthly father impacts her relationship with her heavenly one. After all, how can a girl or woman see her heavenly father as loving and caring if her biological one walked away? How can she see that the creator of the universe pursues her with an everlasting love if she’s never met her own father?

That’s where Lindsey, the main character in Worth the Time, finds herself. Because she attends a private school, she hears about God’s love all the time, but she’s never experienced it and can’t believe it’s true.

And while we can’t all identify with Lindsey’s struggle, we’ve all been in places where we’ve doubted God’s love, His forgiveness, His willingness to rescue us no matter what we’ve done.  Countless times, I’ve told myself there’s no way God will forgive me for _____, and I fill in the blank for whatever sin I just committed. I beat myself up, chastising myself for not learning the last time, for falling down again.

But, that’s not the truth. The truth is that while I was a sinner, Christ died for me. The truth is that His grace is sufficient for me. The truth is that I will make mistakes until the day that I die, and that Jesus already paid the penalty for them.

The truth is that Jesus loves me and gave Himself for me.

So, if you’re in a place like Lindsey was, convinced that God doesn’t have time for you, that grace can’t cover your sin, that Jesus doesn’t love you, please take a moment to read these verses from the book of Psalms.

God’s love for you is never going to change, fade, or stop. Your creator is head over heels in love with you, regardless of your past sin or your current struggles.  You are worth the time to Jesus.

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever

Psalm 136

to him who alone does great wonders,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who by understanding made the heavens,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who spread out the earth above the waters,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who made the great lights,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
the sun to rule over the day,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
the moon and stars to rule over the night,
for his steadfast love endures forever;

23 It is he who remembered us in our low estate,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
24 and rescued us from our foes,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
