The Wedding Barter by Alice K. Arenz

Blurb: Riley Carr has been best friends with Amy Lawton since they were toddlers. While Amy awaits her discharge from the Army, Riley’s been left in charge of helping to arrange “a very small, intimate ceremony with no fanfare” for Amy and her fiancé. But, Riley has something else in mind.

With the aid of two other friends, Riley presents her “wedding barter” idea to groom, David Herron. He agrees, providing best man, Mike Todd, stays in the loop to keep things from getting out of hand.

It doesn’t help that the giant of a man is threatening, overbearing, and just doesn’t seem to like her or her ideas. But, when Todd gives Riley an ultimatum of producing results in three weeks or he’ll take over, she’s determined to prove him wrong. . .in more ways than one.

Review: A lovely story of friends going above and beyond the necessary to do something extraordinary, and finding love in the process.

Out of the Ordinary by Jen Turano

Blurb: Working as a paid companion may be quite commonplace, but Miss Gertrude Cadwalader’s eccentric employer makes her job unpredictable, to say the least. She finds herself carrying out an array of highly unusual tasks, including wearing peculiar outfits and returning items the woman pilfered. But when the wealthy Mrs. Sinclair catches Gertrude sneaking around the Sinclair yacht with some of the missing items in her possession, she immediately jumps to the wrong conclusion.

Shipping magnate Harrison Sinclair is caught in the middle of a misunderstanding between his mother and Gertrude, but he can’t help coming to his friend’s defense. Even as he hopes their friendship might become something more, Harrison is unprepared for the outlandish escapades that seem to follow the lovely, anything-but-ordinary Gertrude at every turn.

Review: Loved it. Gertrude was absolutely one of the best characters I’ve ever “met.” Harrison compliments her completely. I smiled and then giggled at her troubles, through no fault of her own — mostly. To date, I have loved every single Jen Turano book I’ve read. Her quirky heroines and oblivious heroes (who are truly gallant gentlemen, willing to overlook the quirkiness of the women in their lives) just make my heart pitter-patter with expectation every time one shows up in my mail up in my mailbox.

The Baby Assignment (Baby Protectors #1)

Blurb:Tasked with figuring out who left a baby girl at the Houston FBI office, Special Agent Tanner Wilson has only one hint—his ex-girlfriend’s name written on a scrap of paper. But child psychologist Macy Mills doesn’t recognize little Addie, and someone’s dead set on abducting her…even if it costs Tanner’s and Macy’s lives. And with Addie and Macy as targets, Tanner’s new mission is to protect them both—at the risk of his own life and heart. Macy will do anything to help him find who’s after Addie, and make amends for her past mistakes. But for their reunion to become a second chance at love, they must find a way to survive the danger threatening to tear them apart.

Review: Other than a few missing words early in the book (random and just slightly annoying), I enjoyed this story. It did not distract from the story, and the last three-fourths of the novel were clean and well-edited.

I loved Macy and Tanner’s difficult relationship. Add in a baby in danger and life gets interesting. Christy Barritt is an excellent writer and her story telling show that.

Cold Terror by Susan SleemanBlurb: Forensic artist, Hannah Perry’s skills made her a valuable asset to the police…

Even if she’s on a much-needed vacation on a secluded island with her young son. She could work on the reconstruction in the evenings while her son slept. But as the woman’s face takes shape, an assailant invades Hannah’s cabin and tries to end her life. Before he can permanently silence her, she and her son flee the island in a small boat. Trouble is, as they approach Cold Harbor, ocean waves capsize the boat, enveloping them both in cold terror.

But it also makes her the next target.
Former SEAL Gage Blackwell can’t believe his eyes as he plunges into the raging waters to rescue the pair. Owner of Blackwell Tactical—a law enforcement training facility and protection services agency—Gage pulls the woman he once loved from the angry ocean. When he learns of her attack, he vows to protect her while hunting down the killer. Alone and vulnerable, Hannah has to accept Gage’s protection—even if it means staying close to the man who’d once walked out on her without a backward glance.

Review: As with all of Ms. Sleeman’s books, I was hooked from the very beginning and stayed with the story to the very end. I so love a HEA (happily-ever-after). I can’t wait to read the other books in this series.

The Rejected Princess

Blurb: When Princess Roanna Hamilton’s parents arrange a marriage with a prince of Dawson’s Edge—the mysterious and backwards kingdom to the south—Roanna reluctantly agrees. But when Roanna is introduced to Dawson’s royal family, strange mind-bending anomalies are awakened within her, and she discovers the Dawsonian royal family holds secrets of their own. With threats growing daily, Roanna comes to realize the danger she is in. If Roanna is to save herself and her future, she must stall her marriage and squelch the growing rebellion—all while discovering how deeply her power runs.

Review: This book took me a little bit to get into, but a few chapters of reading and then I was hooked. I loved Roanna’s struggles. She had to make a choice, do the right thing or be happy. It’s not an easy choice.
