Recipe of the Month: Chocolate Orange Cream Packages

Hello My Reader Friends! Bookworm Mom here.

I have to admit something kinda silly to you. I love a bargain. I mean it gives me some sort of strange inner joy to get a “deal”. It could be that bargain hunting was almost a sport in my family when I was a child … who knows.

My grocery store had BOGO on these Hawaiian Crescent roll tubes. I couldn’t help myself. I bought them.

This is a process more than a recipe. You can show up to the Thanksgiving festivities and look like a baking genius. Pies are great. I adore pie. Sometimes it is nice to have something different.

I commonly use freezer puff pastry dough instead of crescent roll dough…BUT THE CRESCENT ROLL DOUGH WAS ON SALE! I simply couldn’t resist. However, it isn’t a bargain if it isn’t used!

I’ll tell you everything I used, but feel free to make this your own.

Chocolate Orange Cream Packages

8 -½ teaspoon portions of cream cheese
8- ¼ teaspoon portions of orange marmalade
8 -24 chocolate chips
1 tube  of Hawaiian Crescent roll dough
1 egg, beaten
Sugar to sprinkle

1-Preheat your oven according to package directions. This time I used Hawaiian crescent roll dough. Use your favorite. Perhaps you like the butter flavor. Perhaps you like puff pastry.

2- Separate out the eight portions. If you use a sheet of Puff Pastry, cut into eight portions.

3- In the center of each dough portion, place a dollop of cream cheese, a dollop of marmalade, and three chocolate chips. I’ve done this with just lemon curd and cream cheese. Go “fall” and use apple butter instead of marmalade. You don’t NEED the chocolate chips but I love chocolate anything. I’m guessing white chocolate or butterscotch chips would be lovely.

4 -Fold your dough into whatever shape suits your fancy at the moment. This time I was in the mood to make little balls. I wasn’t feeling very creative.

5- Brush the beaten egg over the tops of your chosen dough in a thin layer. Culinary terms = egg wash.

6- Sprinkle with sugar. If you are feeling festive use colored sugar.

7-Bake according to package instructions.

8-Don’t tell anyone how simple they were. People will think you slaved in the kitchen for hours. 😊

**I’m going to mess with this recipe process and come up with a savory treat for those of us who aren’t supposed to eat sugar. I’m thinking sundried tomatoes/cream cheese/and a bacon nibble maybe? Perhaps I’ll use the original flavor crescent dough or freezer puff pastry dough. It depends on what is on sale. Ha! I won’t sprinkle with sugar after the egg wash. (Hint: Check out NEXT WEEK’s bonus recipe post. ~~G)

Share with us if you find a savory combo that works, or if you have a sweet combo that becomes your favorite.

Happy Thanksgiving y’all

BookWorm Mom

I hope y’all enjoy this. Please let me know if you try it. Since I’m recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, it won’t be on my menu. 🙁  It looks super yummy though.

Blessings,
