Jess Colton, the hero of Flawless

Everyone has a physical and/or character trait we’d like to change about ourselves. What is it that most displeases you about you?

This is a bit embarrassing, but if my story can help anyone else, I’ll take the risk of telling you. I grew up with a doting mother and a strict father whom I could never please. He’s a successful lawyer in Woodlyn, Washington, and demands the same from me. I even got an advanced degree in my field. I’m a systems analysist, making six figures a year, and he’s still not impressed. So, all that to say, I was addicted to alcohol to cover the pain of never pleasing him. Then the Lord came into my life, and I soon found getting drunk every night didn’t please Him, so I gave it up. Unfortunately I merely traded addictions. Now I weigh in at three hundred pounds and have no control over my eating. But read my story. You may be encouraged.

A lot of people struggle with food addiction. How have you most changed since you grew up?

Now I overeat daily. I have diabetes, and the doctor has warned I may be endangering my life unless I lose weight. But here’s the crazy part. A beautiful woman I met when the elevator in our apartment house got stuck now claims she’s fallen for me. All three hundred pounds of me. But what kind of future would I have with her? She doesn’t want an obese husband.

Diabetes is definitely not a disease to take lightly. What pleases you the most about yourself?

I’m so grateful God is a gracious God and still loves me for who I am inside. A born-again Christian. I thank him for allowing me to finish my university training and now work for a great corporation.

God is definitely gracious and loving, even when we don’t deserve it. Do you have a personal relationship with the Lord?

Most definitely. I’d be a hopeless food addict or even dead if it weren’t for Him.

More about Flawless:

When man sees two broken lives, God sees them flawless.

Short blurb: When Jess Colton quit drinking to honor God, he discovered another addiction. Now he can’t manage his weight and diabetes threatens to claim him. Jess is baffled when the beautiful Holly Harrison declares her love.

Holly Harrison lived to please herself. But everything caught up with her in one moment of time when a destructive motorcycle accident altered her life forever. She doesn’t plan on falling in love with the handsome Jess Colton seeing past his bulk to the godly, tender man within. When Jess drives a wedge between them, she loses hope of a future together.

  1. Ginger, thank you for allowing me to share Jess’s story on your blog today. Addictions are a real part of our world, and Jess’s problem is no less serious just because we don’t look down upon someone who overeats like we would a drug addict or alcoholic. I’d love to hear from readers today if you care to share your story. Blessings, June
